NGC 1277 is a Lenticular Galaxy in the Perseus constellation.NGC 1277 is situated north of the celestial equator and, as such, it is more easily visible from the northern hemisphere. NGC 1277 is moving so fast through the cluster, at 2 million miles per hour, that it cannot merge with other galaxies to collect stars or pull in gas to fuel star formation. In addition, near the galaxy cluster center, intergalactic gas is so hot it cannot cool to condense and form stars. NGC 1277 is a lenticular galaxy in the constellation of Perseus.It is a member of the Perseus Cluster of galaxies and is located approximately 73 Mpc (megaparsecs) or 220 million light years from the Milky Way.It has an apparent magnitude of about 14.7.
